Aaron Martens is fishing a giant underwater brushpile just offshore from an office building locally known as "the pyramid." Our boat driver and frequent Muskegon tournament bass fisherman, Mike Elkins, says this is one of his favorite smallmouth spots on the lake.
"I've made some money here," Elkins said.
With two days to watch the pros, Elkins has been impressed with how long these anglers spend on a spot, picking it apart. Martens is one of the best at that. He's probably seeing fish on his graph. But he's only caught one fish here so far, and it didn't appear to be a big one.
Martens spent most of his time at the west end of the lake yesterday, but came up here in the afternoon and caught a couple of his keepers.
