Final BassmastHER of 2024 at St. Lawrence River

As the 2024 BassmastHER season concluded on the scenic St. Lawrence River, women anglers celebrated newfound skills, lasting friendships and a shared commitment to elevate their fishing journeys.

As the 2024 BassmastHER season came to an end, the St. Lawrence River became the perfect backdrop for a final workshop that was as enriching as it was empowering. This concluding event not only marked the end of a successful year but also provided invaluable feedback to shape even better experiences for 2025. The energy and enthusiasm of the women anglers at St. Lawrence made it clear: The BassmastHER movement is stronger than ever.

Welcoming anglers

The day began with a warm welcome as participants registered and were greeted by the BassmastHER team. Each woman had the chance to explore a table stacked with goodies from our incredible sponsors, filling their swag bags with top-notch fishing gear perfect for any angler’s journey. The excitement was tangible as the women mingled, eager to dive into the day’s activities.

Introductions

The workshop officially kicked off with an inspiring story from Kristine Fischer, who captivated the audience with her journey in the world of competitive fishing. Fischer shared the numerous challenges she faced, particularly the stereotypes and underestimations she encountered as a female angler. Her narrative was not just a story of success but a testament to resilience and determination. After sharing her journey, Fischer led a class on Gear Basics, providing practical tips and insights that resonated with anglers of all experience levels.

Knot-tying masterclass

Next, Anastasia Patterson took the stage, sharing her own powerful story of becoming a fiercely competitive tournament angler. Patterson’s journey was filled with perseverance and passion, qualities that inspired the women listening intently. Following her narrative, she conducted an interactive knot-tying lesson. Using provided graded line and hooks, the participants practiced alongside Patterson, learning essential knot-tying techniques that are crucial for any successful fishing trip.

Tackle organization and bait basics

The day’s learning continued with a demonstration on tackle organization and bait basics led by James Hall from Bassmaster. Participants were encouraged to take notes in their BassmastHER Fishing Guides, which were thoughtfully designed with note-taking sections on each page. Hall shared his expertise on how to organize tackle effectively and select the right bait, ensuring every participant walked away with practical knowledge to enhance their fishing skills.

Interactive question and answer

One of the highlights of the day was the interactive question and anser session, where participants had the opportunity to ask our BassmastHER ambassadors anything — from technical fishing questions to personal advice. The depth and complexity of the questions reflected the participants’ genuine interest and enthusiasm. Our ambassadors provided thoughtful, detailed answers, making this session both informative and engaging.

Hands-on learning stations

After a refreshing lunch break, the workshop resumed with hands-on learning stations. Participants were divided into smaller groups, rotating between different stations that included a spinning reel casting class, a bait casting tutorial, a fish-care session led by B.A.S.S. Conservation Director Gene Gilliland, and a class on boat basics with both a bass boat and kayak tour. This immersive, hands-on approach allowed the women to refine their skills and gain confidence in various aspects of fishing under the guidance of expert instructors.

Closing reflections and looking ahead

The day concluded with a final question and answer and feedback session, giving participants one last chance to ask questions and share their thoughts. We also drew the names of participants for giveaways that included rod-and-reel combos from Bass Pro Shops, sunglasses from Hobie Eyewear and travel mugs from Bass Pro Shops. The feedback gathered during this session was invaluable and will play a crucial role in shaping our 2025 workshops. As the event came to a close, there was a palpable sense of accomplishment among the women. Friendships were formed, skills were sharpened and everyone left with a renewed passion for the sport.
