DOVER, Del. — For the first time in a decade, the Zimbabwe BASS Federation Nation will send a team to compete in a divisional event. Thanks to Bass Pro Shops and Tracker Marine, which will provide six boats, the 12-member team will compete Sept. 6-10 on Delaware’s Nanticoke River in the Mid Atlantic tournament.
“We are very excited about our return to the USA to fish the Mid-Atlantic Divisional,” said team caption Ian Harris. “It will be a first for us in this division.”
Teammate Ron Hanhart added, “I am looking forward to the opportunity for several reasons. First and foremost is the chance to travel to the USA, as it is the home and starting place of BASS and will truly be an event to be experienced.
“It will also be interesting in the way of fishing an estuary system as this does not feature on our local circuit and any experience gained will help in many areas. It is also the whole team experience all the way from the planning to the competing with friends.”
Harris said that Zimbabwe first competed in a Federation event in 1992. In 1994, he added, the chapter won at Lake of the Ozarks, before coming in second during 1995 and 1996.
“It is our Federation’s desire to revive our participation in the Divisionals,” said the team captain who has competed here before, along with teammate Mike MacDonald. “However, due to financial constraints, I suspect this may be only every second year.”
