Shimano Saros FA

A supersmooth and superstrong upside-down reel.

What is it?

Shimano’s new Saros FA spinning reel.

What does it do?

It tames the meanest of bass or walleye, or trout, or redfish or whatever you’re after with its advanced drag and silky smooth retrieve.

Why do I need it?

To see just how nice a finely tuned drag on a solid, smooth spinning reel can be.

How do I use it?

Like any old spinning reel, but you may want to use it more often than you should, given how this one feels in the hand.

What sets it apart?

A whole gaggle of fun stuff that makes for a killer deal at this price point. The list includes, but isn’t limited to: Propulsion Line Management System to virtually eliminate any line twist and increase casting distance, Paladin Gear Durability Enhancement, SR Concept, Aero Wrap II, Dyna-Balance and Super Stopper II. They all have five S A-RB shielded bearings, and a one-way roller bearing to eliminate any handle backplay. The frame, rotor and sideplate are made of XGT7 graphite in the frame, rotor and sideplate construction. According to Ken Iida, who works with Shimano’s product development team, XGT7 provides superior strength and durability, plus an exceptionally solid feel. Plus, the Saros FA comes in four sizes, a 1000 to a 4000, but you’ll probably want a 2000 or a 3000.

How much?

$139.99 (smaller sizes) – $149.99 (larger sizes)
